Timber Lake Camp, Timber Lake Road, Shandaken, NY, USA
As most kids do, I went to summer camps as a young girl in the picteresque forest of Timber Lake Camp. I'm still in contact with a few fellow Tigers with whom I share some treasured memories. I remember my best friend during the camp of '80 was Joe, and we used to sneak snacks into our bunks and play cards until late at night. As much as the camp is co-ed, we still weren't allowed in each other's bunks, which really tickled our rebellious fancies at the time. I can imagine the smell of the Balsam Firs and White Pines in the forest between Indian Head and Mountain Slide Wilderness. There was one particular Weeping Willow between the court and the lake, I used to sit under it and read my book and journal between activities--sometimes, my friends and I would take a snack and play a card game in the grass underneath a clear sky and sunshine... they were simpler days then... I hope Sophie get's to have that same experience of being a Tiger.
